Sunan at-Tirmithiy

Abū-Tha'labah al-Khushanī said, "I came to the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, and said, 'Messenger of God, we are in a land of the people of the Scripture (1) and we eat from their vessels.' He replied, 'If you find other vessels, then do not eat from theirs, but if you do not, then wash them and eat from them.'"(2) Footnotes: (1) The peoples who were sent the Torah and the Gospel. (2) This matter is only relevant if it is proven that the people of the Scripture use their dishes, pots and glasses to cook and consume that which is considered impure to Muslims such as pork, dead meat and wine. In this case it is undesirable to use them unless there are no others, in which case they must be washed and it does not matter who washes them. Click on ḥadīth to read more
